PRESENTING FERTILITY AWARENESS IN SCOTTISH EDUCATIONAL ESTABLISHMENTS
Aims
Fertility Care Scotland believes that everyone has the right to full knowledge of human fertility and the right to be given the facts about contraception, the consequences of early sexual activity, sexually transmitted infections and AIDS.
This knowledge promotes self-respect and fosters a positive view of self worth and sexuality - a view often at variance with the popular images presented by the media. It is also the basis of understanding modern natural family planning methods.
Service
We can provide speakers on all aspects of Fertility Awareness, tailoring the talks and information provided to the size and age of the group, as agreed between the educational establishment and our tutors.
Experience
All speakers are accredited tutors of Natural Family Planning and Fertility Awareness. They are accustomed to taking part in Health Education events, Engaged Couples courses, Marriage conferences and Natural Family Planning Training Courses. Our speakers are also invited into schools on a regular basis.
Content of Talks
The programme covers Fertility Awareness (comprising male and female anatomy and physiology, and the menstrual cycle), responsible parenthood and natural family planning, sexuality and relationships, the facts about contraception, sexually transmitted infections and AIDS.
Materials
Speakers make use of overhead projectors, MS PowerPoint shows, videos, charts, models and other aids to illustrate their talks and will have related worksheets, booklets and leaflets available.
Speakers
There are teams of fully trained volunteer tutors who can be booked by contacting the Glasgow office.
Cost
Fertility Care Scotland is a voluntary non-profit making organisation and will submit an invoice after the establishment has been visited. This invoice will be for reimbursement of tutors’ travelling expenses, their lecture fees and the cost of any materials used by the school. Details of the costs are available from the Glasgow office.
Availability
All our tutors available to give presentations are volunteers. This means that by the very nature of volunteers there is a restriction on where they can travel to. At present the availability of tutors to give presentations to educational establishments are only available in the following locations in Scotland UK-
Ayrshire, Cumbernauld, Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Glasgow, Inverclyde Lanarkshire, some areas of Lothian West and Renfrewshire
Contact
We will be very happy to reply to all enquiries. It is helpful if information on the age, size of group and academic stage of the students can be provided together with proposed dates and desired contents of the talks. We would appreciate as much notice as possible as this helps greatly in scheduling the programme for our speakers.
Resources
Fertility Care Scotland has a CD teachers resource for teaching the “Fertility Awareness” programme available for purchase . Information on the content and costs are available from the Glasgow office.
